use of s106 funds to fund officer time spent delivering projects

Hi, Anyway aware of or have views on using s106 funds to fund officer time spent delivering projects? It could be reasonable to do this as we are using public money (salaries) to deliver projects that are made necessary by development so could we use a % of the contribution to help deliver projects. Of course it would be vital to keep accurate time recording and make sure the work is necessary and directly related to delivering the project

Re: use of s106 funds to fund officer time spent delivering projects

We operate a simple system of taking 5% of each cash contributions towards the cost of employing a S106 Monitoring & Implementation Officer. So the developer pays no more than he/she would normally but 5% does not go directly to the project itself. No problems with this so far - apart from the drying up of contributions! The officer's time has been spent mostly on establishing a database of what we should get and when; chasing contributions etc; plus calling together the different Council officers involved and reporting to committees etc.
