Does anyone have experience in obligating private developers to procure building materials locally (or at least within the UK) through Section 106 agreements? It seems to me that there is a bit of mileage in this given one can require developers to provide local jobs and training. I would think the planning link is through sustainable development policy.

Question is, is it legal in the context of EU law. I suspect not if the contract is sizeable.

On the matter of locally sourced materials - Devon County are doing some proactive work on sourcing local stone for the repair of listed buildings. One of their innitiatives is to look at a local development order that will give rights to quarry stone in limited quantities in appropriate areas. Have a look at the LDO pages on the website.
