“It has changed my life”

IPA and the Project Delivery Profession at Civil Service Live 2017

"Civil Service Live is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Civil Service's achievements at events around the country. To be a truly effective modern Civil Service, we can't afford to stand still.  We need to be more skilled, more connected, more inclusive, open to new ways of working, and constantly getting better at the job of advising the Government and serving the public.”- Sir Jeremy Heywood, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service

“It has changed my life” said Asli Ozen, Executive Officer. Amazingly, these really were the words of one person after hearing our presentation about projects and the newly launched Project Delivery Capability Framework at the recent Civil service Live events across the UK

THE PRESENTATION

The Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) was one of the many groups presenting up and down the country during Civil Service Live, from Cardiff to Edinburgh with several stops in between.  Almost 1000 people attended the IPA presentations, which covered:

  • How the IPA supports government and industry to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively, and
  • How people can use the newly launched Project Delivery Capability Framework to grow and manage their skills and careers.

The new Project Delivery Capability Framework was enthusiastically received by the audience.  The Framework sets out all the core roles within the profession, the skills needed for those roles, and the learning and development to build them. A great tool for anyone wanting to develop their career in the project delivery space.  This video was part of the presentation.

THE STAND

As well as presentations around the country, a joint Team of volunteers from  IPA and the Departments  (DWP, BEIS, IPA, HMRC) ran a stand and talked to one-to-one with almost 200 people about projects, careers, jobs, training, the new Project Delivery Standard, becoming an assurance reviewer, the Major Project Leadership Academy programme (MPLA), joining the Government Project Delivery Community (GovPDC) on Knowledge Hub and much much more.

THE PRIZE DRAW

There was even a prize draw to win an Amazon Echo (donated by Khub.net), which proved extremely popular.  Entry into the prize draw came in return for joining the Government Project Delivery Community (GovPDC) on Knowledge Hub, and completing a profile.  We are pleased to announce that Holly Casson from the Department of Health is the lucky winner, you can read what she has to say about Civil Service Live and joining the GovPDC in her blog, 'A Prize for a Profile'

Finally we would like to like thank all the many volunteers from across IPA and the Departments for making our Civil Service Live events so successful. The feedback from Civil Service Live, has been overwhelmingly positive thanks to everybody’s hard work during the events and beforehand.   You know who you are.

Did you attend the IPA presentations or stand at Civil Service Live? Did it change your life too?  Tell us why (or why not) in the comments below.
