Using Khub with email (without logging in!)

It seems a good time to post a reminder about the email interface for Khub. We publicised this a while back but recently I've met a few people who were unaware of this feature.

Notifications

It's an evident truth that email is king in local government and the way most people like to communicate. In light of this we paid attention to how email would work with Khub and especially how you can interact with the system using it.

The notifications system for setting up email alerts which will let you know what's going on in your groups and with your contacts without your having to visit the site. You can also ask for emails to be sent to you if there is a comment or change to any individual item by clicking 'send updates' to subscribe you to the item (see below).

This includes documents, forums, blogs and events. This is useful especially if you want to respond to comments on your own blogs and documents or if you are involved in a conversation in a forum.

Using forums via email

Not only can you get updates by email from forums you can also reply by email to these. Just click 'reply' and the email you send will be posted to the same forum. You don't need to log in and your conversation can continue like this via email only.

This is especially useful if you are on the move and want to keep track of a conversation.

Email in your blog

A very, very useful feature if you are not keen on blogging directly on the Khub is the email you blog feature. This handy little function lets you blog in an email and send it to a special email address unique to your account. You can find this address on your profile (see pic below). Just put the title of the blog in the subject field and the body of your text in the email. You need never login at all to publish your deepest musings on the world.

You can even do it from your phone!

I hope this helps to remind you of some of the really useful features that make Khub special and mobile!

Let me know if there's anything you would like to see in the email interface that we obviously haven't thought of yet.

Mike

That explains why I keep getting Out of Office replies in the forums! I guess there is no way of preventing this? Cheers Mark
Hello Mark. I think there should be a way to prevent the "Out of Office" replies in the forums, but it has to be done at the "user end". When people set up their "Out of Office" autoreplies, they would need to create a rule that tells Outlook not to send autoreplies to emails originating from Knowledge Hub. Has anyone tried this? Did it work? (Whether there's a way for KHub itself to screen these posts out is a question for the development team.)
Thanks for the ideas Louise. Yours is of course the best solution. We have been speaking about a server side solution for this also but at the moment it's still in planning. I'll post here when we have something. Mike
