Change of name for HSCIC

New trading name and new Chair for HSCIC

Two developments about HSCIC's future were announced by Life Sciences Minister George Freeman at the recent National Information Board Leadership Summit in London. He confirmed the organisation is to trade under the name of NHS Digital and use the descriptive strapline "Information and technology for better health and care." As it moves into the next stage of implementing this new name it will do so under the leadership and guidance of a new Chair, Noel Gordon, former Managing Director of the Global Banking Practice at Accenture and currently a Non-Executive Director (Specialised Services Commissioning Committee) at NHS England. He has spent his career in big data, analytics and mobile technologies unlocking potential through innovation.

Plans are underway to implement the new name, strapline and visual identity later in the summer.

Welcoming the developments, Chief Executive Andy Williams commented: "The name change reflects the wishes of The Secretary of State for Health to clarify our role as the national information and technology partner for the health and care system and to help us fulfil our purpose to bring about a digital revolution in the provision of health and care. Trading under the NHS name will help us generate awareness, understanding and recognition for what we do and to benefit from the confidence and trust of the public as we do it."
