Share your views on future health challenges to inform NIHR research

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is taking a long term view on the shape of the health challenges that will most likely be seen in 20-30 years' time. The results will be used to inform the NIHR’s future research funding. It is really important that the sector has an input so that funding is channelled into research aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the next generation.

Health research has to be forward looking, and the NIHR is interested in gathering key stakeholder views on the future of health and healthcare in England in 20-30 years’ time to help inform future strategy. By engaging with experts from a variety of fields, NIHR hope to capture both widely-held views and unique insights on key trends and drivers which will affect health and healthcare in the future, whether clinical, demographic, economic, social, technological, environmental or other.

NIHR are seeking your participation in the 'Health Futures' survey running until the 16th June 2017. The survey and analysis are being conducted by researchers at RAND Europe, Cambridge, on behalf of the NIHR.

The survey consists of five substantive questions. These are deliberately broad and open in order to capture developing thinking and a wide diversity of views. All responses are given via open text boxes. You are not required to answer all of the questions and may choose to contribute to just one or a few of them.

The Health futures 20 year forward view survey asks five questions:

1.    What differences do you foresee in the state of health and provision of healthcare in England in 20-30 years’ time? Consider if/how these changes might affect some populations (within England) differently to others, i.e. socioeconomic, ethnic groups and/or geographic groups.

2.    What do you think will be the key drivers of the changes you have described?

3.    What will be the major trends in health and healthcare in England over the next 20-30 years?

4.    Are there any commonly discussed issues related to the future of health and healthcare in England which you believe to be overstated? If so, why?

5.    Are there any issues that are under-represented in the debates around the future of health and healthcare in England? If so, please describe them and explain why you think they merit greater attention.

The survey is at: https://smapp2.rand.org/surv4/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=84KM47m5 .  Closing date: 16 June 2017
