Managing delayed transfers of care

Frequently asked questions

Delayed transfers of care, sometimes inaccurately referred to as ‘bed-blocking’, occur when a patient is ready to leave hospital but is still occupying a hospital bed. This set of Frequently Asked Questions addresses some of the issues behind delayed transfers of care, why it is important to councils, and explains the data collections used to monitor progress locally and nationally.
