Public notices - have you a novel way of publishing them?

CLG has made available some funding for councils to submit ideas to run six-month pilots exploring different ways of publishing public notices: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/statutory-notices-for-the-21st-century. The closing date is 28 January.

To help you if you are considering a submission to be one of the pilots or if you would just like to find out more, The LGA is co-hosting, with CLG, two short events in Coventry and London. Senior officials from CLG will set out the details of the process, what they are looking for from submissions, and there will also be a Q and A session. In addition, they are keen to hear your views on what you will need to ensure that any adopted ideas are able succeed. Details of the sessions are:

Wednesday 14 January 13.30-15.30
Committee Room 2
The Council House
Coventry City Council
Earl St
Coventry CV1 5RR

Friday 16 January 12- 14.00
London (a sandwich lunch will be available)
Local Government Association
Smith Square
London SW1P 3HZ

The events are, of course, open to anyone working in councils; but are particularly aimed at communications teams, licensing and planning officers and legal staff.

If you would like to attend one of the sessions, please email Kayleigh.sandwell@local.gov.uk

I have only recently discovered that the notices which are published in the press are not published on the newspaper's website. It would appear that as there is no statutory obligation, there is no financial incentive to secure this means of publicity. What is needed is not a pilot to investigate 'novel ways of publishing', its cold hard cash and a statutory regulation.
