Publicity of comments on an application

Can Local Planning Authorities withhold providing public and consutlation responses on applications to applicants? We have submitted a planning application and the case officer refuses to provide us with copies of comments on the application, stating the reason the authority adopt this stance is that they find it unhelpful. I have never come across this before, though the case ofifcer said that he is aware of several other LPAs  in and around London doing the same.

RE: Publicity of comments on an application

There's only one thing unhelpful here, and that's the stance of the LPA. Frankly it's ridiculous. If they won't release the comments to you, submit a request under Freedom of Information. It should be enough to email the case officer and state that your request is an FOI request. If they still don't release them go to the Information Commissioner. You'll be doing everyone else who has to deal with that LPA a favour.
