Hi,

Does anyone NOT publish a notice in a local newspaper for Appeal Public Hearings?

We have been told that it is not a requirement but it is persumed it will take place unless the circumstances are exceptional.

Looked into this a while ago, and could find no requirement to place such an advert.  Checked with some neighoburing councils who mostly did not do it, so we stopped.  Reason forstopping were that its the least effective form of publicity we use and the most expensive.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your response.  We had a reply from our legal team who had established that it wasn't statutory, but that we would have to evaluate each application to make sure we weren't disadvantaging anyone.

Regards

Claire

RE: Appeal Notification in the Local Newspaper

Hi Claire, good to see that I was right about the legality of not using newpaper adverts. Re the evaluation, all evidence we have seen is that the most used methods of finding out

about planning applications is the website, individual letters, word of mouth, site notices, and and the very end (if at all) newspaper adverts.  So difficult to see that anyone would be disavantaged by there not being an advert.
