Local Development Orders

Local Development Orders

For years there were none at all.

Then there were a few brave pilots ...

Then 18 months ago there was  a (relative) explosion in the number of LDOs being prepared by councils because the Government espoused LDOs as the tool of choice for simplified planning in Enterprise Zones.

Now seems a good point to draw breath and try to find out more about what LDOs exist, what kind of developmnet they are aimed at facilitating and what impact they have had for councils, for the customers and for the wider economy.

PAS has commissioned the consultancy, Envision, to undertake this research.  Part of the research will involve a survey of local authorities to try to eastablish some of the wider context.  Please look out for the questionnaire when it comes later this month and put aside five minutes to answer.  I will give you more notice of when the survey goes out.

Meanwhile, please would you use this forum thread to record any of your thoughts about LDOs - scope, opportunities or barriers - whether you have considered using them, explored the options,  run the options past your councillors, used or abandoned the isea - it will all help us to understand the background.

If you have an LDO up and working - or if you have have been an agent for development that has benefited from an LDO - please let us know.

Many thanks

Phillipa
