Consultation requirements for SCI

Hi Does anyone know if we are still meant to consult on an SCI? I have read the P&CP Act, Localism Act and regs and cannot see whether LPA's are required to consult on it. Seems rather silly to consult on a document which discusses how we wil consult! Thank you Jagdeep

As far as I can see, the only statutory requirement in terms of SCIs is PCPA S18 - 19. This was amended under the 2008 Act to state that an SCI is a Local Development Document. PCPA 19 (3) exempts SCIs from having to be prepared in accordance with an SCI. For what its worth, I think that, even if there is no requirement to consult, it makes sense to consult stakeholders on how they wish to be consulted. It may help to get agreement before you apply the SCI to the plan making process. Conversely it will help you if you are criticised over consultation to have afforded people the opportunity to comment.
