Joint Working on Development Plan Documents

My authority (Chorley) is starting work on a Joint Core Strategy with neighbouring Preston and South Ribble Councils. We are only aware of a few other authorities doing this so far in the Staffordshire and Northamptonshire areas and would welcome news of any other authorities embarking on this route and the support you may be getting from your GO, PAS, POS etc.

Joint Working on Development Plan Documents

At PAS we have come across a number of examples of Council's working together on the production of Development Plan Documents, some of which you have already highlighted. Additionally PAS, in conjunction with the IDeA and the Surrey Planning Officers Association have been piloting a 'collaboration project' whereby all the councils in surrey, including the County, have come together to explore which elements of their services could be procured or delivered jointly. 6 projects are being selected to be developed further and implemented. PAS will be sharing the emerging lessons (in terms of both process and outcomes) from this exercise with the plannign community via the existing page on the website for this topic (under 'how we can help?'). PAS is also interested in hearing from other groupings of Councils' who want to work together to deliver planning services across boundaries.

Wokingham district are working with the other five Berkshire Unitaries (Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead and West Berkshire) on a joint Minerals and Waste LDF. This includes a Core Strategy & associated DPD. The authorities are (until 31/3/06) consulting upon the issues for the Joint Core Strategy. For more information, see www.berks-jspu.gov.uk. This is a continuation of joint working following the abolition of Berkshire County Council in 1998.
