Committee presentations

Committee presentations

We do powerpoint presentations for our Planning Committee containing images of plans and site photographs. Google Earth/microsoft live is increasingly used during the stage of assessing applications and could also potentially be of assistance to our planning committee members. We would be interested in hearing whether any authorities are using aerial images from google earth in their committee presentations

Committee presentaions

We (Bristol) use power point for all committee presentaions of planning applications, and use aerial photos. We don't use Google Earth/Live Local - may be licence issues, but have bought in specialist software (Pictometry) for this purpose. It is very effective in helping to explain relationships and we tend to kick off the presentation with a site plan follwed by the aerial photo. Existing site photos are also used. Some of our meetings are webcast, and you can go on line and see some of the past presentations.

Presentations

We are currently looking at going away from Powerpoint due to its limitations i.e. unable to zoom and pan around detailed or large plans. Also, quality of plans is invariably an issue due to the need scanning and reducing to fit the Powerpoint presentation. Finally, Google maps appear to be a long way out of date when it comes to non-urban non-southern areas of the country, so members may complain that the presentation doesn't give a true picture. Is anybody using a purpose made package that allows the electronic versions of all documents to be made available as part of the online application and for committee presentations?
