Planning decision register - electronic or paper?

We have just scanned our decision register back to 1977. Does anyone know if legally I can destroy the hard copy register and just rely on the scanned images. We also have a copy of the decision notices as part of the planning application documentation on either fiche or within our DMS

Re: Planning decision register - electronic or paper?

We have scanned our decision notices and destroyed the hard copies. At the moment we can produce an electronic copy of any decision notice back to 1974 on request and the aim is to have them all available online in the near future.

Re: Planning decision register - electronic or paper?

At stroud we have scanned all the decision notice back to 1947 and have them on our website together with the plotting sheets. This has reduced the land charge agent's queries by 90%. we distroyed the originals. We have also digitised the planning file (though these were already microfilmed) but we have kept the microfilm. these are not on the web as they still contain over 2 million images which may contain signatures, email addresses and phone numbers. Both projects were carried out following a risk assessment on business continuity. This approach has also allowed us to be more flexable on homeworking as all the data is either on the web or available via citrix. Phill
