Decisions - to email or post...

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether it is ok to just email planning decisions rather than post them?

Before we delve into it too deeply looking through legislation,  we wondered if anyone had looked into this already and had any comments?

Thank you

Some thing we have been doing for a quite a while now, and works well for us - as its much quicker and takes less officer time, and for agents/applicants they get the decision straight away and, its also easy for them to share with clients.  One criticism we did get at first was that if the agent/applicant wanted a paper copy, then they would have to bear that cost, rather than the council.

We also publish the Notice of Decion on our web site as soon as the decision is made.

Hi Bryan

Thank you for your comments - We email and post them and put them on public access immediately, and it seems a bit onerous.  Its good to know you haven't been challenged from a legal point of view.

We are striving towards a 'paper-light' office so I think we need to bite the bullet and go for it!

My understanding of the regs as contained in the DMPO is that you can do either or both. However, a point to remember is that the date of the decision must be the date it leaves the office ( in either format) Two other small points, applications made electronically should receive an electronic decision notice, and alternatively if someone opts out of receiving electronic communications, and there is a section (40? ) of the DMPO which allows that , then they must receive a paper copy only.
