If you're reading this you already know that Knowledge Hub is a great tool to help you collaborate. But have you ever wondered how it really all comes together? Over the years Knowledge Hub has evolved based on feedback from you – our members. We have always believed that the only way Knowledge Hub can be a success is if we take on board what you want and remain relevant to your... Gweld mwy

As usual the national Digital Leaders conference in London last week was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and new, listen to and learn from some first rate speakers and consider some good food for thought. One of the activities during the day was an interactive, dynamic word cloud that encouraged everyone to feed in one word in answer to a question about the key themes of the... Gweld mwy

Three words come to mind as I reflect on this year's Socitm Spring conference: innovation, transformation and people. What you'll notice from those three words is that they don't include technology. That's because a key theme was the technology as the enabler, not the solution.  If you've ever read any previous blogs of mine, you'll realise that this is a theme that's dear to my heart.... It was my pleasure and privilege to be invited to present a walkthrough of the Knowledge Hub to some of our new UDiTE network members in Malaga, Spain, this weekend. As well as being welcomed into the group as a friend, it was great to meet colleagues involved in public services from all over Europe.   ... Gweld mwy

Apparently today is Blue Monday… the most depressing day of the year. Well, I beg to differ… I’ve been checking out what’s happening around Knowledge Hub today and what struck me was how many people have happy, smiley profile pictures. We seem to be generally positive people us KHub knowledge sharers and it’s really nice when you are talking with someone in a forum, or commenting on a blog, to... Gweld mwy

Yesterday saw me battling my way across London despite the tube strike, to head up to Birmingham for CommsCamp15. It was well worth the effort, as I found myself inspired and enthused by the conversations. Congratulations to Dan Slee, Darren Caveney and Emma Rodgers and all the other supporters for a really well organised day. It’s hard to pick out key highlights of the day – aside from the... During the Second World War Bletchley Park was Britain’s best kept secret and home to an incredible list of codebreaking and game-changing achievements that, it is said, shortened the length of the war by two years. Recently I’ve been reading a fascinating book about the women of Bletchley Park and their stories. As well as opening my eyes to the work of Bletchley Park, it’s made me draw some... Gweld mwy

I think most people would agree that January can be quite a depressing month. What with diets, fitness drives, no alcohol (for some!)... And yet, a hardy bunch of souls turned out in a decidedly chilly Manchester for the first Digital Leaders North West meeting of 2015. Our subject – digital retail: how can small retailers cope in a digital world? Turns out that the lessons are completely... Gweld mwy

I will make my apologies now that none of this blog is my own material. However I make no apology for sharing it – as I hope it will be useful for others. In fact, I'm grateful to the hugely inspiring Richard Reed, Co-founder of Innocent Drinks, who delivered an enormously enjoyable, humble and wise speech at the InnovateUK conference yesterday, and from whom all of the following pearls of... I suppose it’s not surprising because of my job that a lot of people ask me, “So, this Knowledge Hub, what’s it all about?” And my answer…? Well, it doesn’t vary much; it usually goes something along the lines of “It’s a digital platform that enables people to collaborate with each other, to share information, good practice, experience and ideas, hopefully with the outcome of improving the... Last night I took part in a pub quiz with a number of colleagues. Apart from a lot of fun and hilarity, I learnt that the game subbuteo gets its name from a bird 'subbuteo falco' (bird of prey) and that items that used to be called  Hanways are actually umbrellas. Amidst all of this fun and games and while waiting for the 80s music round (which never materialised unfortunately -... Gweld mwy

It’s not often you go to place and feel a sense of wellbeing and community spirit the moment you enter the building, but that is exactly how I felt a couple of weeks ago when I was privileged enough to visit Wiltshire Council as they hosted an ITW Networks event. An Ipsos-MORI survey earlier this year revealed that 79 per cent of people trust their council to make the right decisions about... Gweld mwy

Gordon Ramsay’s reputation in the kitchen is that of a tyrant, someone who shouts, swears and is generally pretty unpleasant to his staff. Not necessarily conducive to good employee engagement you might think. Well, indeed, I would not advocate all the shouting and swearing, but I’ll say one thing for him; he at least says it how it is. No messing about, no lack of clarity, complete... Gweld mwy

Today I stumbled across an interesting discussion on Twitter: #nzlead. Turns out it’s a tweet chat that happens every week on a Thursday, originating in New Zealand, but generating responses internationally. (Worth a look if you’ve an interest in HR, internal communications or organisational development and are ever available at 8am on a Thursday – or check their website for write-ups.)... Gweld mwy

I just looked up the provenance of the above well known phrase. Wikipedia tells me it "refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image. It also aptly characterises one of the main goals of visualisation, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly". Apparently the phrase was first picked up in a newspaper article in 1911. I think... Gweld mwy

A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to attend a storytelling workshop that included a talk from Shawn Callahan, Founder of Anecdote, a company that uses the power of stories to help change organisations. OK, OK… I know what you’re thinking… “What on earth was she doing listening to stories all day rather than working…?” But just hold on a minute… That day reaffirmed what I have realised... Gweld mwy

As a keen baker, I found myself enthralled by the most recent series of the Great British Bake-off. In case you’ve never seen it, it’s an amateur baking competition judged by the great Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Between them, they munch their way through a whole load of wonderful looking bakes by people who profess to be amateurs, but by all accounts could be professionals. My baking... Gweld mwy

Happy New Year everyone! I just wanted to write this quick blog to remind those who've received an email about our Knowledge Hub feedback survey, to please take a few minutes to fill it in for us. Not everyone will have received the email - the survey is being conducted with a random sample of people, both those who currently make a lot of use of online resources and those who do not;...
