Portable Antiquities Scheme Data
The Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is run by the British Museum and Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales to encourage the recording of archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales. Its database holds records of finds made by the public while carrying out a wide range of activities, including metal-detecting.
Since May 2005, when the National Council for Metal Detecting and other organisations came to an agreement over the transfer and publication of PAS data, it has been possible for HERs to export data directly from the PAS database. Further details about downloading PAS data for HERs can be found in the help section of the PAS website. Further information about how HERs can integrate PAS data can be found in the Maintaining a Dynamic HER section.
