Introduction

This section provides practical advice to ensure HERs are actively managed. It complements the higher-level overview offered in the other guidance sections and is designed to help HERs meet best practice benchmarks. HERs require active management if they are to reflect the changing nature of the historic environment and our understanding of its significance.

The focus is on actively managing spatial data, digital data, sources, un-accessioned material (HER backlogs and enhancement) and, to document these actions, maintaining a Recording Manual.
