One area of focus for the strategy for the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales (2023-2030) is artificial intelligence (AI) and digital. There is potential for improvements in various sectors due to technological advancements in these areas; such as healthcare, transport and education. It’s also important that AI is adopted in a way that supports human rights, social wellbeing and fairness.

“While Wales is actively exploring AI opportunities, there is a skills gap, a lack of infrastructure and a lack of data in some areas. Almost one in five people in Wales lack basic digital skills, the highest proportion of any UK region. The most digitally excluded people in the Welsh population are those aged 75+, while younger people and women are more at risk to the impacts of automation in the future.”
