This two-part report explores pathways into heritage construction the UK. It focuses on pre-apprenticeship, beginner-level training initiatives that introduce individuals to heritage construction skills.

It is intended for use by organisations with interests spanning skills policy, advocacy and delivery of direct interventions relating to specialist heritage construction skills training. It is hoped that it will provide inspiration for organisations of all sizes and will in particular help larger organisations develop strategic and sustainable responses to current skills gaps and shortages for specialist traditional construction building skills. 

This research document spotlights possible interventions that can:

• build awareness of the range of engagement and career opportunities in heritage skills and their vital role in sustaining the historic built environment
• provide inspiration concerning a range of pathways into specialist heritage construction careers and training ​​​​​​​
